I rarely know exactly what kind of day I will have in real estate. Issues come up, and it is up to me to problem solve. Sometimes it is just a matter of crafting contract language. Sometimes it is finding a contractor to handle repairs right away. And sometimes it has nothing to do with real estate and everything to do with being in the right place at the right time.
Case in point. I recently visited one of my listings. The property is pending, so I need to remove the staging items I brought in to help showcase the home. While there, I noticed that the yard could use some light weeding. I found my trusty gardening gloves and weed stick in the back of my car and got to work. As I was working along the side of the house, an adult crow landed on the roof and began watching me intently. I assumed he was hoping I would turn up a worm or two for lunch and did not think much of it. As I got closer to the garage, however, he let out a caw and landed in the driveway just in front of the garage.
That is when I noticed a second crow sitting quietly in front of the garage. He was a baby, and he was dragging a wing. Having volunteeredat the Wildlife Care Center for a number of years, I knew he needed intervention. I walked toward the baby, and the adult flew away and watched me from a nearby tree. I cornered the baby between the garage and the fence and scooped him up gently. I did not want to disturb the wing. Thankfully I had plenty of moving boxes, so I was able to get the young’un into a quiet box while I contacted the Audubon Society of Portland to let them know that I was on my way with an injured crow.
I am thankful that I was there that day. Because I have flexibility and ultimate control of my schedule, this little guy will not have to defend himself against cats or traffic. I am grateful that I was able to readjust my late morning appointments to accommodate a quick trip over to NW Portland to get this guy to folks who could help him out.
I never know what may happen from day to day in real estate. But I stand ready every day to rise to the challenges and handle any situation that presents itself.
