When we first moved to Portland we struggled to find pizza we loved. We struggle no more. Below is a sampling of some of our favorite pizza in Portland. We encourage you to try these and others around town!
Southeast Portland
Apizza Scholls, 4741 SE Hawthorne Blvd, Neighborhood: Sunnyside
This has easily grown to be one of our favorite spots for pizza in Portland. Their oven runs hot and they offer the perfect combo of snappy sauce, crisp bottom, and the right amount of crust char for texture, chew, and flavor.
Babydoll Pizza, 2835 SE Stark St, Neighborhood: Kerns
Large pies. Pizza by the slice. And now with lots of sitting space. Perfect, crisp pizza bottom. Nice zesty sauce. Or forego the sauce completely – I’m obsessed with their white pie with sesame seeds (get it with bacon and dressed arugula). Bud’s favorite here is their #2, which includes bacon, mushrooms, dates, garlic and walnuts. Trust me – it’s great!
East Glisan Pizza Lounge, 8001 NE Glisan St, Neighbornood: Montavilla
There are so many things to love about East Glisan (“EGPL”). They pour a terrific cocktail, as well as offer an affordable beer and wine menu. They introduced me to the pan seared, crunchy cheese of their Detroit style pizza. With both personal size and large pies available, there is something for everyone. They also serve homemade vegetarian lasagna on Sunday nights. Great social media presence, too. If photos of pizza do it for you, definitely follow them (@eastglisan). This is one of our go-to pizza in Portland spots.
St. Pizza Lounge and Gladstone St. Pizza, 3813 SE Gladstone St, Neighborhood: Creston-Kenilworth
Gladstone Pizza was the first pizza in Portland that made me sit up straight and realized they were totally on to something here. Then they opened the bar next door and I was all in. This is a great neighborhood spot to grab some pizza and a cocktail with friends.
Northeast Portland
Dove Vivi Pizza, 2727 NE Glisan, Neighborhood: Kerns
Cornmeal crust excellence. They smoke their tomatoes, make their own sausage, and have some of the yummiest olives I’ve ever tasted. This is a terrific date night option.
Red Sauce Pizza, 4641 NE Fremont St, Neighborhood: Beaumont-Wilshire
This spot has perfected the crust char, but they understand it is not for everyone, so you can ask for a “light bake” if you want them to go easy. Great ingredients, and well thought-out specialty pies.
Northwest Portland
The Star Pizza, 1309 NW Hoyt St, Neighborhood: The Pearl
One of my favorite spots in The Pearl. Their deep dish pizza is the closest thing I can find to some of my favorites in Chicago. Their sauce is garlicy magic and their cheese ratios are spot on. Favorite pies here include the Classic as well as their Meatball pie with ricotta cheese.
Oven and Shaker, 1134 NW Everett, Neighborhood: The Pearl
Their personal sized pizzas are perfection. This is a very happening spot in The Pearl with great cocktails and a terrific “night out” vibe.
Sizzle Pie, Various locations around town
Sizzle Pie is not defined by location – there are several throughout town (plus Eugene and Reno). But they are known for imaginative and delicious slices. There is usually great music being played at volume whenever I stop into their E Burnside location. When I’m running around town and realize I missed lunch, this is a perfect place to pop in because there is usually one nearby and their daily slice specials never disappoint.
Like my Coffee list, this list is by no means meant to be a total rundown of all pizza in Portland. But this list does capture a number of my favorites. I hope you are able to find some favorite spots among this list, or let me know if you find a spot you love.
