Audubon Society of Portland is located just northeast of the West Haven-Sylvan area, and it is a tremendous resource for all local residents. There is a hiking trail system within the Audubon Sanctuary that is dense and cool on a hot summer’s day. If you should ever discover a sick or injured critter in need of medical care, they also offer a Wildlife Care Center that cares for over 3,000 animals per year and fields over 12,000 telephone inquiries per year. Whether you want to learn how to identify birds by sight or by sound, take a drawing class, attend lectures by naturalists, or send your child to “Jr. Wildlife Vet” camp, the Audubon Society of Portland offers a breadth of opportunities and resources.
Oregon Zoo is also located within Washington Park and is a very easy drive from West Haven-Sylvan.

From the West Haven-Sylvan area, you are west of Downtown Portland, the Pearl District, and the Alphabet District, and the area actually includes a portion of Cedar Hills Boulevard in Beaverton. You have your choice of the hustle and bustle of downtown, the large shopping centers of the suburbs, or eclectic, independent neighborhood shops.
